SAS to launch nonstop Copenhagen–Mumbai route on October 1, marking first direct Denmark–India link in 17 years; five weekly Airbus A330 flights

Scandinavian airline SAS is reestablishing its presence in India with a new nonstop route from Copenhagen to Mumbai, set to commence on October 1. This marks the first direct connection between Denmark and India since 2009, when SAS discontinued its route to New Delhi.¹²³

The new service will operate five times weekly using Airbus A330 aircraft, each accommodating 266 passengers. The flights will enhance Copenhagen Airport's status as a key transit hub, facilitating connections to major European cities and long-haul destinations like New York and Toronto.

Paul Verhagen, SAS's Chief Commercial Officer, stated, “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome passengers on board our new nonstop service to Mumbai. This strategic route represents an extraordinary milestone for SAS, opening effortless doors between Scandinavia and one of the world’s most dynamic economic hubs.” The route is expected to unlock significant opportunities for travel, business, and cultural exchange between Northern Europe and India’s financial capital.⁴

SAS has not operated a direct route to India since 2009, when it ceased its New Delhi service to cut costs. Currently, Air India is the only airline providing direct flights between Copenhagen and India, specifically to New Delhi. With this new route, SAS aims to offer superior reliability and world-class service, reinforcing its commitment to international travel as it celebrates 80 years in the industry.
