San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is embarking on a significant project to establish a luxury private terminal, responding to a high level of demand for premium travel experiences. Bids from private operators will be accepted starting in September 2026, with the terminal anticipated to open by late 2028.12
The proposed terminal will span 75,000 square feet and is designed to enhance the airport's competitiveness as a hub for business and technology. It aims to provide travelers with private TSA screening, luxury lounges, and personalized concierge services, thereby alleviating the stress often associated with commercial air travel.
Airport spokesperson Doug Yakel emphasized the terminal's focus on privacy and efficiency, stating, “Somebody that uses this product really wouldn’t see the other passengers they’re traveling with until they’re taken up the stairs of the jet bridge and on to the aircraft.”
The pricing structure for accessing the terminal will be determined by the winning bidder, with options for membership or per-use fees. Existing private terminal services at other major U.S. airports, such as Los Angeles and Miami, charge between $1,295 for a one-time experience and $4,850 for an annual membership.4
If successful, SFO will join the ranks of other major airports offering luxury terminals, further solidifying its status as a premier destination for affluent travelers.
