Samsung nears One UI 9 Android 17 rollout; Galaxy S26 Beta 5 timing emerges as One UI 9.5 surfaces ahead of Z Fold 8 launch

Samsung is set to launch One UI 9, its latest Android skin based on Android 17, alongside the Galaxy S26 series between late August and September 2026.¹⁵⁶⁷

The company is currently conducting a public beta program for the Galaxy S26 series, which began in May 2026. Four beta updates have been released so far, with the fifth expected around August 3 or 5.⁴

Samsung's rollout strategy typically prioritizes its latest flagship devices before extending updates to older models, including the Galaxy S25, S24, and S23.

One UI 9 promises significant interface enhancements, including a cleaner Quick Settings panel and a redesigned lock screen experience. The update will also introduce AI features like Now Nudge, which offers contextual suggestions based on user activity, and an AI Assistant Activity Dashboard for monitoring AI operations.

Samsung is also refreshing its productivity tools, with Samsung Notes expected to gain a new Tape Mode for easier text memorization. Additionally, Samsung DeX will feature a dedicated desktop management dashboard for improved workspace organization.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra will be the first devices to ship with One UI 9.0, with their global launch scheduled for August 7, 2026. Development of One UI 9.5 is already underway, with a firmware build spotted for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. This version is expected to debut with the Galaxy S27 series in 2027, following the pattern established with previous releases.²³⁸
