Samruddhi Mahamarg cuts Nagpur-Mumbai travel to 8 hours: what it means for Maharashtra

The completion of the Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway marks a transformative milestone for Maharashtra, slashing travel time between Nagpur and Mumbai from 16 hours to just 8 hours.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, inaugurated the final 76-km stretch between Igatpuri and Aamne, Thane, completing the entire 701 km Hinduhrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg.

"Maharashtra’s path to prosperity – paved and delivered!" Fadnavis declared, highlighting the expressway's significance.

The ₹55,335 crore project, developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), is a six-lane, access-controlled expressway that passes through 10 districts, 26 talukas, and 392 villages, linking 12 districts with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority.

The final phase includes five tunnels, notably an 8 km long tunnel in Nashik district starting from Igatpuri, the longest on the expressway. The Igatpuri to Kasara segment now takes just 8 minutes.

This infrastructure development is expected to boost economic activity, improve connectivity, and enhance regional integration across Maharashtra, facilitating faster movement of goods and people.
