The UN estimates the quakes caused $6.7 billion in damage, equivalent to 6% of Venezuela’s GDP. Reports indicate that 3,200 people were injured and 3,100 left homeless. The situation is dire, with 68,900 people unaccounted for and foreign nationals among the deceased, including 15 Portuguese and seven Chinese individuals.7
