Rescuers are actively searching through collapsed buildings in affected villages, where many residents are trapped beneath the rubble. Berton SP Panjaitan, an official at BNPB, stated that around 500 homes have been damaged, complicating the rescue efforts.
The earthquake has overshadowed Indonesia's Independence Day celebrations, with residents of East Nusa Tenggara province experiencing nearly 1,600 aftershocks since the quake. Authorities are mobilizing aircraft to deliver essential aid, including food and tents, to those in need. Panajaitan emphasized the urgency of the situation as communities await assistance amidst the devastation.
