Police are investigating a tragic boat collision in Mersing that occurred on August 31, resulting in the deaths of a 38-year-old boat operator and a 32-year-old passenger.

The incident involved two vessels, the Sea Queen and Rawa Birds, near the Sungai Mersing jetty.145

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad stated that the investigation will focus on whether the operators had valid permits and adhered to safety regulations.7

The collision, which took place around 8:15 PM, left four others injured, with three receiving treatment at Mersing Hospital and others at Sultan Ismail Hospital and Pasir Gudang Hospital.6

Police are pursuing charges under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence and Section 280 for negligent navigation.
