Police appeal after unidentified woman's body found in Liverpool park inside a bin bag; murder described as 'shocking crime'

Police in Liverpool are investigating the discovery of a woman's body found in a black bin bag in Stanley Park on August 28. The victim, believed to be in her 70s, was described as white, approximately 1.57 metres (5ft 2in) tall, and wearing a pink Nike T-shirt.¹

The body was located in the walled garden area of the park, and it is suspected that it may have remained undiscovered for several weeks. Det Supt Rachel Wilson stated, “A postmortem took place on Saturday 29 August, the result of which has been withheld for investigation reasons.”

Despite extensive inquiries, including checking missing persons reports in Merseyside, the woman has yet to be identified. Wilson emphasized the urgency of the investigation, stating, “We’re carrying out house-to-house, CCTV and other enquiries as a matter of urgency.”

The park is frequented by dog walkers and families, and police believe that potential witnesses may have seen something suspicious. “It is quite possible that one or more of these visitors may have seen something suspicious recently and not reported it at the time,” Wilson added.
