The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has recorded its highest COVID-19 caseload for May with 108 new infections, marking the largest monthly surge this year.

Currently, Pune has 94 active COVID cases, with 84 patients under home isolation and 10 hospitalized, according to PMC officials.

Dr. Nina Borade, PMC's health chief, reassured the public, urging calm and emphasizing that the situation remains under control. She attributed the spike to increased testing by doctors, which has identified more cases.

"The spike in cases is seen as doctors have started testing patients for COVID," Dr. Borade said.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra state reported 59 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, including 20 from Mumbai, 17 from PMC areas, and two from Pimpri-Chinchwad, highlighting a broader regional trend.

Despite the rise, health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, encouraging residents to follow safety protocols and remain vigilant.

The surge underscores the importance of ongoing testing and public health measures to manage COVID-19 spread in Pune and surrounding areas.
