On August 4, 2026, a mass funeral was held in Gaza for 112 victims finally recovered from a devastating airstrike on November 22, 2023, which claimed over 300 lives. The victims were from the Hassayna and Abu Sharia clan, many of whom were related.12345

Hundreds gathered to mourn, surrounding the bodies wrapped in Palestinian flags, as they were laid in rows on the ground. Following funeral prayers, mourners carried the bodies on stretchers through the rubble of destroyed buildings to a nearby cemetery.

The recovery of these bodies comes after a fragile ceasefire, allowing first responders to dig through the wreckage. Initially, around 40 bodies were recovered shortly after the strike, but most remained buried deep beneath the rubble. According to the Civil Defence, a rescue agency under Hamas, 157 bodies are still unaccounted for, and at least 7,400 people are reported to be under the rubble.

One relative, Taysir al-Hassayna, expressed the pain of loss, stating, “The only crime of these martyrs was that they remained steadfast and resilient in their homes, believing that these homes would protect them.” The ongoing conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 73,377 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, highlighting the devastating impact of the war.6

The Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulted in around 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages, marking the beginning of this tragic escalation.
