OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Health, a feature designed to assist U.S. users over 18 with health-related inquiries. This rollout allows users to connect their Apple Health accounts and medical records from various providers, enhancing the chatbot's ability to provide personalized health insights.134

The company reported that over 300 million health-related questions are posed to ChatGPT weekly, a significant increase from 230 million earlier this year. Users can now receive tailored responses based on their health data, although the service is not HIPAA-compliant, meaning it lacks the confidentiality typically associated with healthcare providers.5
OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT is not intended for diagnosing or treating health conditions. Instead, it aims to explain medical terms and conditions effectively, supported by a team of over 260 physicians who have reviewed more than 700,000 AI responses across various medical specialties. The latest models, including GPT-5.6, are said to be better at recognizing when urgent medical intervention is needed.

Despite the advancements, OpenAI advises users to verify information and consult professionals for medical decisions. The feature's launch follows a lawsuit against the company, highlighting the importance of safety in health-related AI applications. Users can opt to disconnect their health information at any time, ensuring control over their data.

“The most useful part has been turning scattered medical history into something I can actually understand,” said Blake, a technical program manager, reflecting the potential benefits of the new feature.
“More than 300 million ChatGPT users ask health-related questions each week, with 70% of those conversations occurring outside the dedicated health experience. Users can now connect Apple Health and medical records from providers like Epic, while OpenAI says it will not use that data for model training or advertising.”
