OCOOPA Direct has issued a recall for 1.5 million rechargeable hand warmers due to serious safety concerns, including 350 burn injuries and one death linked to overheating. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that the hand warmers, sold online from September 2018 to May 2026, can overheat and ignite, posing a significant fire hazard.125
The recall was announced on July 30, 2026, after the company received 1,480 reports of overheating incidents, which included 15 fires and the tragic death of an 83-year-old consumer in San Diego, California, in February 2026. The hand warmers, which retail for $15 to $60, were available on platforms like Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and the company’s own websites.467
Consumers are advised to stop using the products immediately and contact OCOOPA Direct for a full refund, which can be issued as a gift card or returned to the original payment method. To facilitate the refund process, consumers must write “RECALLED” on the hand warmer in permanent marker. The CPSC has also cautioned against disposing of the products in regular trash or recycling bins due to the fire risk.
“Stop using the recalled hand warmers immediately and contact OCOOPA Direct for a full refund,” the CPSC stated. The recall affects several model numbers, including UT3053, UT3056, ZLS-118, ZLS-118S, ZLS-118D, H01, and H01(PD).
