- DLSS 5 becomes available on September 3rd at 9pm PT for NBA 2K27 on GeForce RTX 50 Series PCs, laptops, and GeForce NOW Ultimate members.
- At launch, DLSS 5 offers three AI models: default, natural, and cinematic, along with per-pixel control masks for developers.
- Post-launch, Nvidia did not confirm when DLSS 5 would be available for other games beyond NBA 2K27.
- In March, Nvidia announced DLSS 5, promising support for at least 16 games including *Assassin's Creed Shadows*, *Hogwarts Legacy*, *Starfield*, and *Resident Evil Requiem*.
Nvidia's DLSS 5 will be available on September 3rd at 9pm Pacific Time, enhancing the visual experience in NBA 2K27 for GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs. This new technology, developed by Visual Concepts, utilizes 3D-Guided Neural Rendering to significantly improve realism in gaming.12345
According to Peter Kavic, Senior Producer at Visual Concepts, “DLSS 3D-guided neural rendering helped boost the visual quality of our materials and lighting, bringing a real jump to photorealism across the game.” The technology allows for realistic light transmission through player features, enhancing details like skin texture and hair definition.
The GeForce RTX 5090 can achieve up to 370 frames per second at 4K with DLSS 5, while at 2560x1440, it can reach 590 frames per second. Other models in the RTX 50 Series also show impressive performance, with the RTX 5080 hitting 410 fps and the RTX 5070 Ti reaching 350 fps.

DLSS 5 is described as a generative AI filter that enhances the visual fidelity of characters, providing lifelike warmth and detail under arena lighting. However, it requires significant GPU power and can impact frame rates if not applied correctly. Nvidia claims that DLSS 5 is deterministic, ensuring consistent visual quality across gameplay.
As Nvidia's director of applied deep learning, Edward Liu, stated, “The soul and goal of GeForce is to achieve photorealism in real-time rendering.” With multiple AI models available, developers can customize the visual output to achieve different aesthetics, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
“DLSS 5's performance hit averages 50-60% across RTX 50-series GPUs, yet Nvidia claims an RTX 5060 can run NBA 2K27 at 1080p ultra with ray tracing. The company hasn't confirmed when other announced titles like Assassin's Creed Shadows will receive DLSS 5 support.”
