24 U.S. states. This follows the prediction of a
G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm, expected to peak with a Kp index of
4.67, indicating stronger auroras.
States with the best chances to witness this vibrant display include
Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and
Maine. If storm conditions escalate to
G2-class, sightings might extend to states like
Oregon, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Vermont, and
New Hampshire.
NOAA emphasizes the importance of timing for viewers, suggesting the best opportunity to see the lights occurs between
10 p.m. and 2 a.m. local time. The forecast stems from NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, which monitors solar emissions that interact with
Earth's magnetic field, causing such stunning celestial phenomena.
Though many states may experience enhanced auroral displays, clear weather conditions will significantly influence visibility results.
