- Downing Street has finally been in touch with Pc Andrew Harper’s mother after she made an emotional plea for information about the early release of her son’s killers.
- On Monday evening, Debbie Adlam said she had been kept in the dark about the case and urged to explain to her why he could not keep Jessie Cole and Albert Bowers behind bars.
- In a direct challenge to the Prime Minister, she said: “You want to meet the people – you haven’t even got in touch with me. How about coming to see me?”
- The plea appeared to prompt a response from No 10, with a member of Mr Burnham’s team calling Ms Adlam the same night.
- However, Mr Burnham has since sought a way to block their release and said he was “increasingly confident” of a solution.
- In an interview with ITV News on Monday, Ms Adlam said she had “heard nothing from the Government” about the case and urged Mr Burnham to meet her in person.
Downing Street's response to Pc Andrew Harper's mother, Debbie Adlam, comes after her emotional plea for information regarding the early release of her son's killers, Jessie Cole and Albert Bowers.12
Adlam expressed her frustration, stating, "You want to meet the people – you haven’t even got in touch with me. How about coming to see me?" Her plea prompted a call from a member of Mr. Burnham's team the same night, indicating a shift in communication from No 10.34
Previously, No 10 had claimed it was “not possible” to keep Cole and Bowers in jail due to legal constraints, but Burnham has since expressed confidence in finding a solution to block their release.
Adlam, who had been “kept in the dark” about the case, urged Burnham to meet her in person, highlighting the emotional toll of the situation. The Telegraph reported that Cole and Bowers are eligible for release after serving half of their sentences, a policy stemming from Labour's plans to address prison overcrowding.
