Despite search teams recovering four bodies, the remains of Purja and others could not be retrieved due to adverse weather and difficult terrain. Mingma G noted, “There was another avalanche,” which forced rescuers to halt their efforts. The recovery mission has been further complicated by poor weather, preventing helicopter operations in the region.
Mingma G, who has a close friendship with Purja, emphasized the need for improved coordination among rescue teams. The Alpine Club of Pakistan announced that helicopters would attempt to reach the area again, pending better weather conditions.
This incident marks one of the most tragic mountaineering disasters in the Karakoram region, highlighting the inherent dangers of high-altitude climbing.
