Night crews are battling a 200-hectare wildfire south of La Casa, with evacuation orders affecting 2,218 properties near Okanagan Lake. The Quilpituk Creek wildfire has expanded significantly, doubling in size since early Sunday morning, but is currently moving away from populated areas.12567
Ground crews and night-vision equipped helicopters are actively working to contain the blaze, which is classified as burning at Rank 1 and 2, with pockets of Rank 3 at the head of the fire. This indicates a smoldering ground fire with a slow to moderate rate of spread.
“They were still working on their hose lays on the south and east flanks with support from helicopters,” said fire information officer Nicole Bonnett. “They also will be having heavy equipment out there tomorrow, working with them on the north flank of the fire.”
Evacuation orders remain in place for Nahun and properties along Westside Road, including La Casa Lakeside Resort and La Casa Cottages. Central Okanagan Emergency Management has confirmed that no structures are immediately threatened, but residents must evacuate south along Westside Road to ensure safe passage.348
