- Neuromod Aqua raises pre-seed funding from Sportskeeda founder Porush Jain.
- The startup plans to expand into effluent treatment, zero liquid discharge, water reuse, reverse osmosis, and demineralisation applications.
- Neuromod Aqua expects services to account for a growing share of its revenue, including annual maintenance contracts, operations and maintenance, compliance support, equipment replacement, and remote monitoring.
Neuromod Aqua, co-founded by Anuj Arora and Anand Dad, is innovating in the wastewater treatment sector by developing modular treatment plants using established technologies like moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) and membrane bioreactor (MBR). The startup aims to standardize the design, manufacturing, installation, and servicing of treatment plants, addressing the challenges of unpredictable execution and fragmented accountability in the industry.1
“Wastewater treatment does not suffer from a shortage of acronyms or proven processes. It suffers from unpredictable execution, fragmented accountability and poor long-term ownership. We are taking what already works scientifically and redesigning how it is manufactured, delivered and operated,” Arora stated.
India's urban areas generate significant sewage, with the Central Pollution Control Board reporting an installed treatment capacity of 31,841 million litres per day (MLD), while actual utilization is only 20,235 MLD, about 28% of sewage generation. A 2025 analysis indicates that India's used-water treatment capacity must increase by over 70,000 MLD by 2047 to meet national targets.
Neuromod Aqua plans to complete its manufacturing facility and initiate deployments in Delhi NCR within the next year, while also expanding into areas like effluent treatment and water reuse. The startup anticipates that services will increasingly contribute to its revenue through maintenance contracts and remote monitoring.23
“Neuromod Aqua aims to complete its manufacturing facility and begin initial deployments in Delhi NCR within 12 months, while building a service and spare-parts network. It also plans to expand into effluent treatment, zero liquid discharge, and reverse osmosis applications, expecting services to grow as a revenue share.”
