Netanyahu accused Mamdani of fomenting hate and claimed, “He’s supposed to be the mayor of all New Yorkers – Jews, Christians, Muslims, everyone,” during an interview on Fox News. He dismissed the ICC warrant as “bogus” and suggested it was an attempt to divert attention from issues surrounding the court's credibility.23
Mamdani, who previously stated he would support Netanyahu's arrest, clarified that while the city lacks the authority to enforce the warrant, he urged the federal government to act. He emphasized that “New York City does not have legal authority to execute an arrest warrant issued by the world’s top war crimes court.”
A recent YouGov poll revealed that 46 percent of Americans believe Netanyahu should be arrested, while 28 percent disagree. In contrast, a survey by the Associated Press-NORC Centre found that only one-third of Jewish adults view Netanyahu favorably, compared to 44 percent who have a favorable opinion of Mamdani.
Netanyahu plans to speak at the UN in September, despite Mamdani's assertion that he is unwelcome in the city.
