- Shortly before 5:15 p.m. Friday, a Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office deputy tried to stop a vehicle that was being driven recklessly in the area of Benham Avenue and Nebraska Street.
- The vehicle failed to stop and continued traveling erratically at high rates of speed through residential neighborhoods, eluding the deputy.
- The suspect vehicle subsequently crashed, and the driver, who was identified as 59-year-old Mark Lee Jackson of Des Moines, ran off.
- During the subsequent foot pursuit, Jackson fired at pursuing officers and struck a Muscatine police officer.
- Jackson has active warrants through Iowa State Corrections for a parole violation and through the Muscatine Police Department for Theft 2nd. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
- Community members around the south end of Muscatine are asked to lock their doors and shelter in place.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol, are involved in the search. Officers have deployed tear gas in an attempt to flush Jackson out of a wooded area near the scene of the incident.
