The contract, lasting 68.8 months, will enable the detailed design of the railway systems to proceed alongside ongoing civil construction, ensuring alignment in project delivery.34

MRCB stated, “The project is expected to contribute positively to the future earnings of MRCB Group,” while acknowledging potential construction risks, including materials and equipment price fluctuations. However, MRCB is confident in its ability to mitigate these risks through established controls and operational procedures.

The system turnkey contract encompasses seven major railway systems packages, including electric trains, signalling and train control systems, automatic platform gates, and maintenance vehicles. It also covers power supply and distribution systems, railway supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and automatic fare collection systems.

MRT Corp highlighted that the Penang Mutiara LRT Line is progressing steadily, with key milestones achieved in engineering design and construction planning. Currently, 45 pile caps and 32 pier columns have been constructed across 14 of the planned 19 construction sections under the Civil Main Contract 1 (CMC1) package.
