Former Infosys CFO and civic commentator Mohandas Pai has publicly condemned the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and the Development Minister for the repeated delays in launching the Yellow Line of Namma Metro.
The 19.15-km corridor, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, was initially slated to be operational by mid-2024 but now faces a delay pushing the launch to late July or August. This postponement contradicts Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar's earlier assurance that the line would be ready by May 2025.
Pai expressed his frustration on social media platform X, describing the situation as a result of a
"very bad lousy work culture" and demanded accountability from those responsible for the setbacks.
The delay has drawn public scrutiny and embarrassment for the authorities, especially given the project's high-profile nature and the importance of the Yellow Line in Bengaluru's urban transit network.
"Very bad lousy work culture," Pai said, emphasizing the need for transparency and responsibility.
The Yellow Line is a critical addition to the Namma Metro system, expected to enhance connectivity between key areas of the city. However, the repeated postponements have raised concerns about project management and execution efficiency.
With the launch now likely deferred to late July or August, stakeholders and commuters await a definitive timeline and improved progress updates from BMRCL.
This episode highlights ongoing challenges in Bengaluru's infrastructure development and the demand for greater accountability from public agencies.
