The issues began early in the morning, with users experiencing problems related to receiving messages (37%), app functionality (23%), and website access (20%).
Microsoft acknowledged the situation, stating, "We're aware of an issue affecting access to Exchange Online and some other services. We know this is disruptive for customers and we appreciate their patience while we work to restore services as quickly as possible." The company is investigating a "misconfiguration issue" that is hindering authentication components from deploying correctly across its infrastructure.34

As part of its response, Microsoft has opened an incident investigation, designated as EX1464935, and is testing a remediation strategy to address the authentication problems. The company aims to confirm the effectiveness of this fix before implementing it more broadly.78
In the meantime, users have taken to social media to express frustration over widespread login failures, missing emails, and inaccessible files. The outage has also led to a broader "service degradation" affecting other Microsoft 365 services, including OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Teams.
Despite these issues, Microsoft Azure and consumer-facing products remain unaffected at this time.
“Downdetector shows 37% of reports involve receiving messages, 23% app issues, and 20% website problems. Microsoft's status page now lists OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, and Defender XDR as impacted, while Azure and consumer products remain unaffected.”
