Microsoft Edge is set to phase out Manifest Version 2 (MV2) extensions, initiating the transition to Manifest Version 3 (MV3) in August 2026. The consumer transition aims for completion by the end of 2026, with enterprise deprecation following in early 2027.136
The Edge team noted, “MV3 offers security and performance improvements over MV2, and developers across the ecosystem have done the work to modernize their extensions.” Currently, 95% of the top MV2 extensions on the Edge Add-ons store have already migrated to MV3, indicating significant progress in the ecosystem.27
To provide context, there are only 58 MV2-based extensions in the Edge Add-on Store with meaningful usage, and of these, only three lack a publicly available MV3 version.
