Metro Line 4 hits milestone- 8 massive U-Girders lifted overnight at Kapurbawdi

Metro Line 4, a critical 32.3km elevated corridor connecting Wadala to Kasarvadavali with 30 stations, marked a significant construction milestone overnight at Kapurbawdi.

Eight massive U-Girders, each weighing 97.92 metric tonnes, were lifted and installed with military-like precision, totaling 783.36 metric tonnes of steel structure placed in a single night.

The complex operation involved a coordinated team of over 90 personnel, including 28 riggers, 10 skilled workers, 20 unskilled workers, and 35 traffic marshals, ensuring safety and efficiency during the overnight work.

This elevated metro line is set to become the backbone of East Mumbai's transit system, enhancing connectivity and easing commuter flow across the region.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is preparing for trial runs on a 10km stretch of Metro Line 4 and 4A, covering 10 stations from Cadbury to Gaimukh, signaling progress towards operational readiness.

"The overnight operation, executed with military-like precision, mobilized over 90 personnel," a project official said.

The successful installation of these U-Girders is a testament to the engineering and logistical capabilities driving Mumbai's expanding metro infrastructure.

As the project advances, commuters can anticipate improved transit options and reduced travel times across East Mumbai.
