Meta has taken action against 32 ads featuring explicit images of female politicians after Apple removed the Kromix app from its App Store for violating guidelines. The Kromix app, marketed as an AI image editor, was found to promote the creation of explicit content.6

According to reports, the ads targeted male users and included sexually explicit images of female US politicians. Meta acknowledged that advertisers successfully evaded detection by using benign cover images to mask the pornographic content. Cindy Southworth, Meta's Head of Women's Safety, stated, "Sexual exploitation, including promoting nudify apps, is abhorrent behavior, and we aggressively combat this type of content."8

In response to the situation, Apple emphasized its strict prohibition of apps designed to generate or distribute pornography, stating, "Nudification apps violate our App Review Guidelines, and we actively identify and remove apps that attempt to circumvent our processes and policies." The company has recently removed multiple apps capable of generating nonconsensual sexual imagery, including another app called MaskAI.

At the end of last year, Meta removed over 340,000 ads promoting nudify apps that violated its policies and has deployed new AI technology to more effectively detect and block offending ads.
