A massive fire broke out at the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach resort in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic, around 11 a.m. on Friday, leading to the tragic death of Francesca Valentino, a 46-year-old tourist from Italy. The blaze resulted in the evacuation of approximately 1,690 guests to nearby hotels and housing facilities.¹²³

The fire was fueled by the flammable nature of the resort's roof, which was partially made of cane, and exacerbated by windy conditions.
