An 18-year-old man, identified as Axel Zizumbo, was arrested after firing a gun on W. Franklin Street in Chapel Hill on Friday evening.
Officers responded to the scene around 7 p.m., where witnesses reported a chaotic atmosphere as many students were present.2
Hannah Mackin, a senior at the University of North Carolina, described the scene: "Everyone started screaming. We run into [the restaurant] ... the entire place is just people screaming and hiding out. Eventually we go out and it's flooded with cops."7
Zizumbo faces multiple charges, including concealed carry of a weapon violation, discharging a firearm in town limits, and armed to the terror of the public.
Fortunately, police confirmed there were no injuries reported, and they assured the community that there is no ongoing threat.
The investigation is still ongoing, with additional information expected to be released as it becomes available.
