A 63-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man were found shot to death at their home on Panoramic Way near the Berkeley border on Friday morning. The Oakland Police Department reported that the shooting occurred around 10:45 a.m. and that a firearm was located at the scene.14
Police Assistant Chief Casey Johnson stated, "The call came from a neighbor hearing gunshots. We are not ruling anything out, but it is unknown at this time" regarding the possibility of a murder-suicide. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Berkeley police officers who arrived first.5

Residents expressed shock at the incident, with one neighbor, Michael Walkman, noting, "It's pretty shocking. We don't see the people that live there very much." Another resident, Jerry Wachtel, mentioned that the sound of emergency vehicles alerted him to the situation, stating, "This has shattered that sense of isolation and protection" that the neighborhood typically offers.
