- L&T wins a Middle East contract for three battery storage projects with 6 GWh combined capacity.
- L&T created a separate Renewable EPC business vertical, effective 1st September 2024, as an addition to its Power Transmission and Distribution (PT&D) business.
- The move comes as the division grows fast and wins multiple new businesses in the Middle East, enabling access to green financing and easier partner involvement.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced a major contract to develop three Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in the Middle East, collectively providing 6 GWh of storage capacity. This initiative is part of L&T's newly established Renewable EPC vertical, aimed at enhancing its role in the energy sector.
The contract, valued between Rs 5,000 crore and Rs 10,000 crore, will support grid modernization and renewable energy integration across the region. Each project will feature a four-hour BESS, capable of storing and dispatching energy to maintain grid stability. The advanced systems will utilize liquid cooling technology for improved power density and safety.
This strategic move positions L&T as a key player in the rapidly expanding energy storage market in the Middle East, which is witnessing significant investments in renewable infrastructure. The projects will facilitate energy shifting, allowing surplus clean energy generated during off-peak hours to be stored and utilized during peak demand.

L&T's new Renewable EPC vertical, effective from September 1, 2024, aims to streamline operations and enhance access to green financing. The company has previously secured multiple projects in the region, including a 2.5 GWp solar PV and 10 GWh BESS order in the UAE, showcasing its growing influence in the renewable energy sector.
The comprehensive scope of work includes not only the development of storage facilities but also essential grid interconnections, pooling substations, and underground cables, ensuring a robust infrastructure for future energy demands.
“The Renewable EPC vertical, carved out of L&T's Power Transmission and Distribution business effective 1st September 2024, has been winning multiple Middle East projects. This separation enables access to green financing and simplifies bringing in partners for future ventures.”
