Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced a transformative agenda during his 80th Independence Day speech, introducing the 'AI Akshara Abhiyana and Coding Gurukula' programme to integrate AI education in schools from Class 6.2
“We are now entering a new technological era,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of equipping students for global competition.
The Chief Minister also revealed plans for India’s first government-owned AI university in Bengaluru, with certificate courses expected to start by January 2027.

To decentralize growth, five Global Technology Centres (GTCs) will be established under the LEAP programme, and an Advanced Manufacturing Cluster with a ₹20,000 crore investment is planned for Doddaballapura.
Shivakumar highlighted the significance of state progress for national growth, stating, “If India is a temple, the States are its pillars.”
