A K2 Airways cargo plane, Flight KTA1732, disappeared from radar over the Arabian Sea on Tuesday evening while traveling from Sharjah to Karachi. The aircraft reported a navigational system issue at approximately 9:18 PM local time, prompting the Karachi Area Control Centre to provide assistance.2
However, just three minutes later, at 9:21 PM, radar data indicated the aircraft was rapidly descending and making a sharp change in heading before contact was lost approximately 155 nautical miles (287 kilometers) west of Karachi.
The final ADS-B data point recorded the aircraft at 1,100 feet AMSL with a staggering vertical descent rate of -22,400 feet per minute. Following the incident, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority activated the Rescue Coordination Centre, launching a multi-agency search operation involving naval, military, and civilian assets.
Authorities have mobilized resources, including the Pakistan Navy frigate PNS Zulfiqar, to locate the missing aircraft. Aviation expert Imran Aslam noted that the sudden descent raises questions about the cause, stating, “Even if an aircraft suffers an engine failure, it would normally continue gliding rather than plunge suddenly.” The Bureau of Air Safety Investigation will conduct an inquiry into the incident.
As the search continues, the aviation community remains on high alert for updates regarding the missing cargo plane and its five crew members.
