Israel launches second wave of airstrikes on Isfahan nuclear site: conflict intensifies

The latest Israeli airstrikes on Iran's Isfahan nuclear facility mark a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict that began June 13. With over 470 missiles and 1,000 drones fired by Iran and multiple senior Iranian commanders killed, the region faces heightened instability and growing international concern.

Israel intensified its conflict with Iran by launching a second wave of airstrikes on the Isfahan nuclear site, targeting centrifuge production facilities and killing three senior Iranian commanders.

"The strikes targeted 'a centrifuge production facility' at the Isfahan site and caused 'significant damage' to its centrifuge production capabilities," said the Israeli military.

This escalation follows Tehran's volley of five ballistic missiles toward central Israel overnight, part of a broader Iranian retaliation involving over 470 ballistic missiles and approximately 1,000 drones fired at Israel since June 13.

"According to Israeli Army estimates, Iran has retaliated by firing more than 450 missiles and 1,000 drones at Israel so far," underscoring the intensity of the ongoing conflict.

The war began on June 13 after Israel targeted Iranian nuclear and military sites, killing top generals and nuclear scientists. The violence has resulted in at least 722 deaths, including 285 civilians, and over 2,500 wounded in Iran.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced the killing of Saeed Izadi, leader of the Palestine Corps of the Quds Force, in a strike on an apartment in Qom.

"The Israeli military said it once again struck an Iranian nuclear facility in Isfahan overnight, killing three senior Iranian commanders," highlighting the targeted nature of the attacks.

The conflict has drawn international concern, with Turkish President Erdogan accusing Israel of sabotaging nuclear talks between Iran and the US, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warning that US involvement would be "unfortunate" and "very, very dangerous."

Despite the attacks, local officials in Isfahan reported no radiation leaks from the targeted nuclear site.

This ongoing tit-for-tat exchange marks a dangerous escalation in Middle Eastern tensions, with both sides sustaining heavy losses and no clear resolution in sight.
