Iran has issued a deadline for the U.S. to implement a memorandum of understanding (MoU), warning of potential military escalation in the Strait of Hormuz if diplomatic efforts fail.12
The Iranian government has expressed frustration over the ongoing naval blockade imposed by the U.S. on its ports, stating that it will not tolerate indefinite delays in negotiations.
"Iranian entities must be prepared to escalate tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and wider region," a senior Iranian official told Reuters, indicating a shift from a defensive to a "fully offensive" military posture.
The official emphasized that Tehran would conduct a "timely and precise" military attack to counter the U.S. blockade if necessary.
Monday marked the deadline for the U.S. to fulfill the MoU's provisions, which Iran claims grants it the right to manage shipping through the strategic waterway.
"Within the short period of a few weeks set by Iran, all the agreement's provisions must be implemented by the US. This is a precondition for further negotiations with the US," the official added.
As tensions rise, both nations have ramped up their rhetoric, with Iran warning of hostilities resuming in the region.
The situation remains precarious as Tehran prepares for possible military actions while seeking to assert its rights over the Strait of Hormuz.
