Instagram has unveiled Instants on May 13, a new feature and app designed for sharing spontaneous photos that vanish after being viewed by close friends.
This ephemeral format allows users to capture and send photos with a simple tap, enhancing the immediacy of personal sharing.
"We’ve been testing Instants for a while, and one thing we heard was that people wanted a quicker, easier way to get into the camera," said Instagram Vice President of Products Tessa Lyons-Laing. Instants photos disappear post-viewing and must be captured live, as uploads from the camera roll are not permitted.

This innovative approach caters especially to Gen Z users, who, according to Lyons-Laing, are five times more likely to engage with the casual Notes feature. The design optimizes sharing unpolished moments, aligning with trends of smaller, more personal content circulation.
Instants is also compatible with existing Instagram privacy settings, ensuring a secure environment for users.
With its focus on simplicity and spontaneity, Instants aims to redefine how users interact and share brief moments with their social circles.
