IndiGo is set to become the inaugural airline operating from the new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), starting with 18 daily flights to 15 cities. The airline plans to ramp up operations to 79 daily flights, including 14 international departures, by November 2025, with further expansion to 140 daily flights by 2026.

The $2.1 billion NMIA project, developed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (NMIAL) — a public-private partnership between Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) and CIDCO — aims to decongest Mumbai's existing airport and position the region as a major global transit hub.

"IndiGo will be the inaugural airline to operate from NMIA, and we couldn’t be more pleased to announce this," said Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo. "Our alliance signals towards achievement of complete operational readiness on both sides to take next steps."

The airport’s lotus-shaped terminal will initially accommodate 20 million passengers annually, with plans to expand capacity to 90 million passengers and handle 3.2 million metric tonnes of cargo per year once fully completed. It features two parallel runways and advanced cargo facilities to ensure efficient operations.

IndiGo’s phased expansion includes increasing daily departures to 158 by November 2025 (including arrivals), with 14 international flights, and scaling up to 200 daily movements by March 2026. This growth aligns with the airport’s vision to serve as a key domestic and international hub, easing congestion at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).

"This expansion underscores our dedication to catering to the evolving needs of our aspirational travellers and further contributing to the growth of India's booming aviation sector," Elbers added.

The launch of NMIA will create a dual-airport system for Mumbai, enhancing passenger experience and boosting the region’s connectivity on the global aviation map.
