- Ambani family retained its position as India's richest business family, despite an 8.5% decline in wealth, according to the latest 2026 Barclays Private Clients Hurun India Most Valuable Family Businesses list, released on 11 August. The family's fortune stands at ₹25.8 lakh crore.
- The combined value of India's top family businesses is now worth $1.46 trillion or ₹138 lakh crore, surpassing the gross domestic product (GDP) of Saudi Arabia and ranking as the world's 18th-largest economy if treated as a country.
- In the 2024 edition, the combined value of top family businesses was lower, while the Nifty 50 and Sensex were in red.
- The 2025 edition saw the combined value increase by ₹1.23 lakh crore over the previous year.
India's top family businesses are now collectively valued at $1.46 trillion, surpassing Saudi Arabia's GDP and ranking as the world's 18th-largest economy. The Ambani family remains the richest, despite an 8.5% decline in wealth, with a fortune of ₹25.8 lakh crore.12
According to the 2026 Barclays Private Clients Hurun India Most Valuable Family Businesses list, the top three families—Ambanis, Birlas, and Jindals—are worth ₹42 lakh crore, nearly 9% of India's total listed market capitalization. The Birla family, valued at ₹8.14 lakh crore, saw a 26% increase, while the Jindals reached ₹8.02 lakh crore, up 40%.

The Jindal family created the most value, adding ₹3.3 lakh crore over three years, while the Ahuja family of Shahi Exports experienced the strongest growth, with wealth soaring 352% to ₹37,500 crore.
About 70% of these businesses are led by the second generation, with many adopting professional governance and succession planning. The families generate ₹56 lakh crore in revenue and contribute ₹1.9 lakh crore in taxes, accounting for 17% of India's corporate tax revenue. The top 10 family businesses are valued at ₹70.5 lakh crore, making up 51% of the total value of the 300-family list.
“The combined value of the top 300 family businesses rose 27.5% since 2024, adding Rs 4,076 crore daily, even as the Nifty 50 and Sensex fell. The list also tracks 100 first-generation businesses, led by the Adani family at Rs 19.6 lakh crore.”
