India's domestic air passenger traffic declined by 4.8% in July 2026, totaling 1.20 crore passengers, down from 1.26 crore in July 2025. This decrease is attributed to seasonal travel slowdowns and airlines' calibrated capacity deployment.12
Despite the overall drop, IndiGo and the Air India Group managed to increase their market shares. IndiGo's market share rose to 67.4%, up from 66.3% in June, while the Air India Group's share increased to 24% from 23.9%.346

In terms of passenger numbers, IndiGo carried 80.82 lakh passengers in July, down from 89.20 lakh in June, while the Air India Group transported 28.75 lakh passengers, a decrease from 32.22 lakh in the previous month. Akasa Air and SpiceJet also saw declines in passenger numbers, with Akasa carrying 6.65 lakh and SpiceJet 1.87 lakh passengers.5
The overall load factors remained robust, indicating healthy seat utilization despite lower traffic. Akasa Air recorded the highest load factor at 91.9%, followed by SpiceJet at 84.1%, the Air India Group at 83.2%, and IndiGo at 82.4%.

In terms of operational performance, IndiGo led with 91.2% of its flights on time, followed closely by Akasa Air at 90.8%. The overall cancellation rate for scheduled domestic airlines was 0.62%, with technical issues being the primary cause.
The DGCA also reported 2,196 passenger complaints, equating to approximately 1.83 complaints per 10,000 passengers.
