Indian box office hits ₹1,136 crore in May 2025: Sikandar fuels blockbuster surge

This growth was largely driven by major releases including Raid 2, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and the domestic hit Sikandar. Released on March 30, Sikandar overcame criticism regarding its direction and performances to become a blockbuster.

The film crossed the ₹100 crore mark domestically and ultimately grossed over ₹200 crore worldwide. It secured the tenth spot among the top 10 releases of 2025 from January to May, with a domestic business of ₹121 crore.

This performance highlights the film's strong box office appeal despite mixed reviews, contributing significantly to the overall surge in Indian cinema revenues during the period.

"Sikandar was released in theatres on March 30. Despite receiving criticism for its direction and performances, the film managed to cross ₹100 crore at the box office and ultimately grossed over ₹200 crore worldwide," the report noted.

The combined success of these films underscores a robust market for Indian and international releases, reflecting growing audience engagement and box office potential.
