India has called for international scrutiny of Pakistan's actions in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), where a violent crackdown has resulted in the deaths of over 40 civilians since July 27 amid local-body elections.12
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the Pakistani government has been using ruthless force against peaceful protesters, leading to serious injuries and fatalities.34
The region has seen massive protests driven by inflated living costs, political discrimination, and alleged administrative neglect. The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has been at the forefront of these demonstrations.
Jaiswal emphasized that the ongoing situation reflects a humiliating rejection of the Pakistani establishment, which has resorted to branding protesters as enemies. He noted that the Pakistani regime's actions have prompted calls for an independent investigation into the unlawful killings.
“Facing a violent regime, the people have requested international organisations for an independent investigation into the unlawful killings,” Jaiswal remarked, highlighting the urgent need for accountability.
The protests have intensified as civilians demand justice and an end to the violence, with the international community being urged to take action against the atrocities committed in PoK.
