India and China have agreed on an eight-point consensus to enhance boundary delimitation discussions and border management during the 25th round of talks held in Beijing. The agreement includes establishing new military hotlines and meetings to address any potential misunderstandings along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).1
The joint statement emphasized that any situation on the ground would be promptly addressed through existing diplomatic and military channels, including the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) and local commander-level meetings. This aims to resolve outstanding issues and prevent miscalculations along the LAC.
Additionally, the two nations will hold a meeting of the Expert-Level Mechanism on Trans-border Rivers in September, focusing on hydrological data sharing and the renewal of relevant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). The Expert Group on Boundary Delimitation and the Working Group on Border Management will also advance discussions on an Early and Substantial Harvest of boundary delimitation.237
Both sides expressed appreciation for the reopening of three designated border trade points and agreed to strengthen cooperation in border trade and other areas. They reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and tranquillity in border areas, guided by the principles established in the 2005 Agreement on Political Parameters for settling the India-China boundary question.456
