John O'Sullivan, 20, of Barkway, Hertfordshire, has been charged with 38 counts of theft involving 45 streetlamps and ornate lanterns worth an estimated £1 million. The alleged thefts occurred across several counties, including Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Durham, Essex, and Thames Valley.127

The stolen items include Grade II-listed 1950s street lamps, known as Richardson Candles, taken from Cambridge city centre. Police reported that the lights were stolen from various locations, including council offices, businesses, churches, schools, and private owners.

In addition to O'Sullivan, two others, Anna O'Sullivan, 66, and Richard O'Sullivan, 67, have been charged with handling stolen goods. They are set to appear in court on August 12.8

The investigation led to the recovery of approximately 300 lights at a property in Barkway in January 2025. O'Sullivan is also facing seven additional theft charges related to incidents in Hertfordshire between September 17, 2025, and March 17 of this year. He is scheduled to appear at Stevenage Magistrates' Court on August 5.569
