HCLTech, Sarvam AI, and Odisha government partnered for ₹14,257 crore AI data centre; push to create 6,000 jobs

HCLTech has announced a ₹14,257 crore investment to establish its first AI data centre in Odisha, partnering with Sarvam AI and the Odisha government. The facility will be located at the Odisha Sovereign AI Park in Bhubaneswar, aimed at enhancing India's sovereign AI infrastructure.¹²⁵⁸

Under this collaboration, Sarvam will provide its Indian foundation models and AI capabilities, while HCLTech will leverage its expertise in AI infrastructure and enterprise platforms. This initiative is expected to create over 6,000 direct jobs for skilled professionals in the region.

The investment is part of a broader strategy to position Odisha as a leading technology hub, aligning with India's Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the state's commitment to becoming one of the top three states in the NITI Aayog Investment Friendliness Index, stating, “Yahi samay hai, sahi samay hai” (This is the time, the right time).

The AI data centre will support multilingual AI services and address both public and private sector needs, contributing to the growing demand for data centres, which is expected to triple by 2030 due to AI adoption. The Odisha government anticipates that the combined investment in these initiatives could reach ₹15,000 crore over the next five years, marking a significant milestone in the state's digital economy.³⁶

The partnership also includes the establishment of a 5,000-seat Global Technology Center in Bhubaneswar, with operations expected to commence by 2028, further solidifying Odisha's position in the tech landscape.
