Greek police have arrested a 26-year-old man who confessed to killing Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a 38-year-old Scottish woman found dead in a suitcase in Athens.12

Ross was reported missing on July 10, and her body was discovered on July 18 in the Kypseli district by a homeless man.

The suspect, believed to be from Afghanistan, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, robbery, and weapons offences. Police stated he transported Ross's body in a suitcase to the abandoned site and used her bank cards to withdraw money after her death.4

Ross, known to her family as Lisa, arrived in Greece on June 26 and initially stayed in Piraeus before heading to Kypseli to meet American acquaintances.

Authorities are fast-tracking toxicology reports to determine the cause of her death, which is believed to have occurred between five and seven days before her body was found.6

The Hellenic police identified Ross using fingerprints and are also investigating the use of her mobile phone to send messages after her death.

First Minister John Swinney described the case as “absolutely appalling.”

The UK Foreign Office is providing consular support to Ross's family, while Police Scotland is liaising with Greek authorities to assist in the investigation.7
