Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to transform Sholinganallur with the launch of its first public swimming pool, part of a comprehensive 4-crore development project on a seven-acre barren ground at Gangaiamman Koil Street Extension, division 198, zone 15.

This initiative, funded under the Ungal Thogadhyil Mudhalvar scheme, aims to provide residents affordable access to quality recreational facilities, eliminating the need to rely on private pools. The project promises no compromise on maintenance or quality standards.

Beyond the swimming pool, the facility will serve as a vibrant sports and community hub featuring volleyball courts, a skating rink, cricket practice nets, a kabaddi ground, a silambam area, a running track, children’s play zones, and an open gym.

“After a year, people will not have to approach private pools; they can use the GCC swimming pool. Though access will be affordable, quality and maintenance will not be compromised,” the officials said.

This development is expected to enhance community life and promote sports culture in Sholinganallur, providing a much-needed public space for fitness and recreation.
