The activists reported brutal treatment: Avila was allegedly "dragged face-down across the floor and beaten so severely that he passed out twice," while Abu Keshek faced physical violence during his custody.
Spain's Prime Minister condemned the handling of the situation, calling for accountability for the unlawful detainment of his citizen. Adalah stated, "The forced transfer of civilians from international waters into custody constitutes a serious violation of international law."
The flotilla, carrying humanitarian supplies, was intercepted by the Israeli military, leading to the activists' unlawful detention and subsequent court appearance.
The Spanish government seeks the immediate release of Abu Keshek, emphasizing the illegality of his captivity.
"Avila reported being subjected to extreme brutality by the Israeli military," Adalah's statement highlighted, while the Israeli government defends its actions as necessary and justified against perceived threats.
