Formula 1 viewership in the United States has surged by
16 percent in 2025, driven by record-breaking audiences at key races, notably the Canadian Grand Prix. ABC's live telecast of the Canadian Grand Prix last Sunday attracted an average of
1.9 million viewers during the race-only portion, marking the largest U.S. television audience ever for the event.
This figure surpassed last year's record of 1.8 million viewers, which was previously the highest for the Canadian Grand Prix. The 2025 season has seen consistent growth, with
eight of nine races experiencing year-over-year increases in viewership. Five races — Australia, China, Monaco, Spain, and Canada — set new event record audiences.
Across ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC, Formula 1 races are averaging
1.3 million viewers this season, representing a
6 percent increase over the season-to-date average for 2024 and a
16 percent rise compared to the full 2024 season average.
The only exception to the upward trend was the Miami Grand Prix, which did not see a year-over-year increase. The surge in viewership highlights growing interest in Formula 1 racing in the U.S., with the Canadian Grand Prix playing a pivotal role in this record-breaking rise.
