Explosive devices were found at an electrical substation in Turnow-Preilack, Brandenburg, after potential damage to a power line was detected around 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Police confirmed that bomb disposal experts are on site, and evidence is being secured.13
The devices, described as improvised explosive and incendiary devices, were reportedly designed to launch explosive-laden projectiles. The Märkische Allgemeine regional newspaper indicated that emergency services had defused several devices, which were aimed at causing a large-scale power outage at the nearby Jänschwalde power plant.4
Grid operator 50Hertz stated that unidentified perpetrators are believed to have caused damage to several power lines in the transmission grid. Although there was a brief power cut, all lines were restored, and the general electricity supply was never affected. Police assured the public that there was no immediate danger and no injuries reported.
This incident follows a series of attacks on power infrastructure in the greater Berlin area, including an incident in January where suspected far-left extremists caused power cuts to 45,000 homes. In March 2024, a group set fire to a large electricity pylon supplying the Tesla factory in Grünheide, halting production for several days.67
