The Bradley Creek wildfire has wreaked havoc near Okanagan Lake, destroying homes and leading to expanded evacuation orders affecting over 2,200 properties. Fire crews are battling the 200-hectare blaze with heavy equipment and night-vision helicopters, as the Central Okanagan Emergency Management reported increased fire activity.
Residents in Shelter Cove, Secret Point, and Cinnabar Creek are on evacuation alert, preparing to leave at a moment's notice. The evacuation order was expanded early Monday due to the fire's escalating threat, with properties in Caesars Landing now under an evacuation order.
“With the Quilpituk Creek and Bradley Creek wildfires burning to the north and south of this region, evacuations are currently underway to assure safe passage through the fire area,” said CORD emergency. As of now, no structures are immediately threatened, but Westside Road is restricted to emergency vehicles and evacuees.
BC Wildfire reported that crews have set up a sprinkler line along the powerline on the west flank and are conducting danger tree assessments. An overnight support site for Okanagan Indian Band members has been established at Westbank First Nation’s Sensisyusten House of Learning, while the Royal LePage Place Arena is open for evacuees needing group lodging.
Emergency Support Services are available at the Westbank Lions Hall until 9 p.m. for those affected by the fire.
