Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition has officially launched on the Nintendo Switch 2, bringing with it a surprise patch that introduces the most extensive balance changes seen in years.14
The update includes significant buffs for various weapons, such as the Firespark, Lightning, Chilling, Frenzyflame, and Deadly Poison Perfume Bottles, which have all received increased attack power.67
Additionally, the Smithscript Axe and Spear and the Spear of the Impaler now enjoy reduced stamina use and enhanced power for thrown attacks.8
The August Elden Ring update also improves guard performance and reduces weight for several shields, including the Lordsworn's Shield and Briar Greatshield.

Players will notice improved parry performance, with reduced action times for Daggers, Curved Swords, and Small Shields post-parry.10
However, not all changes are positive; the Gravitational Missile and Great Katana have been nerfed, with the former's projectile no longer exploding on terrain impact and the latter suffering increased damage when hit by other players.11
This update marks a significant shift in gameplay dynamics, with the last comparable patch occurring in October 2024, shortly after the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
As players dive into the revamped experience, the community eagerly anticipates how these changes will affect their strategies and gameplay styles.
“The update, out now on all platforms, includes buffs to Perfume Bottles and Smithscript weapons, while nerfing the Gravitational Missile and Great Katana. The Tarnished Pack DLC, adding new classes and armor, also releases tomorrow for other platforms.”
